Botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple treatment that softens the persistent lines of the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes that develop over time. Botox® is injected into the muscles causing the unwanted lines to soften as it relaxes these muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic injectable treatments do not require any downtime. The advantages of BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment typically last about four months. It has been widely tested and has been approved by the FDA since 2002.

How soon will I see results?

Botox can take up to 14 days (about 2 weeks) for the full effect to be present. Please wait until fourteen days have passed before assessing if you are pleased with the results.

How often should I receive a Botox treatment?

Botox slowly metabolizes out of your system over a few months. A treatment every three months is necessary to maintain your results. If you maintain your treatment results will last 3-4 months. If you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended by your clinician, the duration of your results may last longer than four months.

How can I prepare for a Botox treatment?

  • Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Aleve, Celebrex. Fish oil Ginko Biloba, St. John's Wort and high doses of Vitamin E for 7-10 days prior to procedure, as these may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).
  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) being treated.
  • Take Tylenol (if not contraindicated) 1 hour prior to your appointment to help with any discomfort
  • Eat a small meal or snack prior to your appointment
  • Always inform your provider of all medications, including supplements you may be taking as well as your medical history

*Do not stop any prescription medication without first consulting your primary care provider.

What should I do after a Botox treatment?

  • Do not touch or rub the injected site for four hours following a treatment.
  • Remain upright for four hours after a treatment
  • There can be a slight chance of bruising at the treated site, this is temporary.
  • There may be tiny bumps or marks at the injection site, these will go away within a few hours of treatment.
  • Your satisfaction is important to us! We would like you to return to the office in 2 weeks for a follow-up assessment appointment, especially if this is your first treatment. This will ensure we can see how your facial muscles react to your treatment. If you require additional Botox to fine-tune/adjust your treatment results, there will be additional charges at the regular rate.

Who should not receive Botox treatments?

You would not be considered a candidate for Botox® if you have any of the following:

  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Allergy to Botulinum Toxin
  • Neuromuscular disorder
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Allergy to human albumin

Is there a reward program for Botox?

Refine Dermatique participates in the Allē rewards program. This program is a free patient loyalty program that rewards patients with savings on qualifying AbbVie and Allergan Aesthetics cosmetic products. Allē rewards points are awarded on a variety of aesthetic services treatments; including; BOTOX® Cosmetic, Latisse®,Kybella and CoolSculpting. It’s free to join and earn points on Allergan products and our office will assist you in the process.

How much Botox will I need, and how much will it cost?

Botox is sold in units and the number of units required for correction varies greatly from person to person and depends on many factors. We provide a complimentary consultation with one of our injectors so you can find out the exact amount and cost for your treatment.

Can I exercise after a Botox treatment?

Waiting at least four hours for moderate exercise gives the Botox time to settle into place and avoid migration to other areas. If you perform hot yoga or engage in strenuous exercise defined as a heart rate over 130, it is recommended that you wait 24 hours after your treatment. Also avoid steam rooms, saunas, hot yoga, or other activities that involve lots of heat. Don’t drink alcohol for 24 hours after injections as it can increase the risk of bruising.
