Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations. Leg veins are most commonly treated, however, facial, breast and hand veins may also be treated.

A medicine is injected into a varicose vein to damage and scar the inside lining of the vein.  This causes the vein to close and shrink.

Sclerotherapy may also remedy the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins including aching, burning, swelling and night cramps.
